When Someone Is Too Invested in Your Life

Being curious about other people's lives is pretty normal. We all do it. Social media makes it easy to see what people are up to, where they go, what they have, and how they spend their time. I do it too. There's nothing wrong with that. But sometimes, I think people take that curiosity a little too far. Instead of simply looking and moving on, they start making assumptions, commenting on everything, and becoming far too invested in someone else's life.

I once had an experience with someone like that. This person seemed to have something to say about almost everything that happened in my life. Not only would they comment on things I did, but they would also write lengthy pieces about me and my life. Hahaha. Sometimes I wondered how someone could spend so much time paying attention to another person's business.

What made it even more interesting was that this person could freely talk about their own experiences, achievements, and whatever was happening in their life. (And that's actually perfectly fine. Everyone should be able to share their own stories without feeling judged.) But somehow, when it came to me, there was always something to criticize. Whatever I did, there seemed to be another interpretation, another assumption, or something that needed to be questioned. It was almost as if their way of seeing things was the only version that could possibly be right.

At first, I was angry. I didn't like being misunderstood, so I felt I had to defend myself and explain things. But now, I don't really get angry about it anymore. Somehow, the whole thing has become quite entertaining to watch. Instead of upsetting me, it actually makes me laugh.

Maybe this person has their own insecurities, or perhaps there are things in their life that make them unhappy. But I sometimes wonder if seeing someone else enjoy an ordinary, peaceful life can make certain people uncomfortable. Maybe it's difficult for them to accept that someone they don't particularly like can actually be doing just fine. So they look for flaws, question their choices, and interpret things in a way that fits whatever they already believe.

And when I think about it, it's actually quite sad. Imagine spending so much time keeping up with someone else's life, analyzing their decisions, questioning their experiences, and finding something to criticize. Meanwhile, that person is just getting on with their day, working, resting, spending time with people they love, enjoying little things, and living their life without giving it that much thought.

I don't mind people looking at my social media. I'm curious about other people too, and I don't think there's anything unusual about that. But there's a difference between being curious and becoming so invested in someone's life that you feel the need to comment on almost everything they do. You can look, you can have your own opinions, but not everything needs to become a judgment or a personal commentary.

And honestly, I no longer feel the need to defend my life to someone who seems to have already made up their mind about it. I have my own life to enjoy, and I'd rather spend my time living it than explaining it to someone who isn't interested in understanding it in the first place.
