Blueberry Jam Recipe

Blueberry jam is a luscious fruit preserve made from fresh blueberries, sugar, and lemon juice. It captures the rich and sweet flavor of blueberries in a thick and spreadable form. The process involves gently cooking the blueberries with sugar and lemon juice until they soften, release their juices, and transform into a delightful jam-like consistency.

Blueberry jam is a versatile and delicious spread that can be enjoyed on toast, muffins, bagels, or as a filling for pastries and cakes. Its deep purple color and sweet-tart taste make it a delightful addition to breakfast or snack time. Blueberry jam can also be used in sauces, desserts, or as a topping for ice cream and pancakes.

Making homemade blueberry jam allows you to fully appreciate the natural flavors of the fruit and control the sweetness to suit your taste. Whether you're using fresh-picked blueberries or frozen ones, blueberry jam provides a delightful way to preserve the flavors of summer and enjoy the taste of blueberries all year round.

Ingredients:

  • 1 kg fresh blueberries
  • 800 grams granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the blueberries under cold water and remove any stems or leaves. Gently pat them dry with a clean towel.

  2. In a large saucepan, combine the blueberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Stir well to ensure the blueberries are evenly coated with sugar.

  3. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.

  4. Once the mixture is boiling, reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 30-40 minutes. Stir occasionally and use a spoon to crush some of the blueberries against the side of the pan to release their juices.

  5. After simmering, increase the heat to medium-high and continue cooking for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the mixture has thickened to a jam-like consistency. You can test the consistency by placing a small amount on a chilled plate and allowing it to cool. If it sets and wrinkles when touched, it is ready.

  6. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the jam cool for a few minutes. During this time, skim off any foam that may have formed on the surface.

  7. Carefully transfer the warm jam into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of headspace at the top. Wipe the rims of the jars with a clean, damp cloth to remove any spills.

  8. Seal the jars with sterilized lids and rings. Allow the jars to cool completely at room temperature. As the jam cools, you should hear the lids popping, indicating a proper seal.

  9. Store the blueberry jam in a cool, dark place. Once opened, refrigerate and use within a few weeks.

Enjoy your homemade blueberry jam on toast, muffins, or as a flavorful addition to your favorite recipes!
