Kotlety Mielone Recipe

I have a best friend from Poland, and when we have dinner together, I often enjoy preparing Polish dishes. One of my absolute favorites is Kotlety Mielone, also known as Polish meat patties or minced meat cutlets. This beloved traditional dish in Polish cuisine is incredibly delicious and hearty. It consists of ground meat, typically beef or pork, mixed with onions, breadcrumbs, eggs, and a flavorful combination of aromatic herbs and spices.

Kotlety Mielone is a popular choice for various occasions, including family gatherings, Sunday dinners, or any time you're looking for a comforting and satisfying meal.

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams of ground beef or pork (or a mixture of both)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, eggs, dried marjoram, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.

  2. Once the mixture is well combined, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for about 30 minutes. This will allow the flavors to meld together and make it easier to shape the patties.

  3. After the chilling time, take the mixture out of the refrigerator. Wet your hands slightly with water to prevent sticking, and begin shaping the mixture into round or oval-shaped patties, about 1 inch thick.

  4. Heat a generous amount of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, carefully place the  Kotlety Mielone in the skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Fry them in batches if necessary.

  5. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they develop a golden-brown crust. Make sure to cook them thoroughly, ensuring that the meat is no longer pink in the center.

  6. Once cooked, transfer the  Kotlety Mielone to a paper towel-lined plate to drain any excess oil.

  7. Serve the Kotlety Mielone hot with mashed potatoes, a side of mustard, and optionally, a pickled cucumber or salad for a complete and traditional Polish meal.

Enjoy your homemade  Kotlety Mielone, savoring the delightful flavors and the heartwarming essence of Polish cuisine!
